Step 1 Guidelines

Before starting your Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) application, take time to gather the required documents and read the information below. Completing the application could take up to 30 minutes.

  • • Required Documents: Upload copies of both a Social Security Card AND School ID OR Recent Report Card. If you choose not to upload them now, be aware this may delay processing your application.
  • • Valid Email Address: Use a personal email address (e.g., Gmail or Yahoo) instead of a school email, as school email systems often block communication.
  • • Parent/Guardian Contact Information: Have your parent or guardian’s contact details ready to include.
  • • Resume or Cover Letter (Returning Participants Only): You only need to submit a resume or cover letter if you have participated in SYEP before. If this is your first time applying, you do not need to upload a resume or cover letter.
  • • Program Capacity: Participation is limited, and submitting an application does not guarantee a spot.
  • • Interviews: Some job placements may require an interview with SYEP staff in order to be considered for placement.
  • • Program Eligibility: SYEP staff will review all submitted applications to determine eligibility. If eligible, you will receive an email invitation to register for job readiness training.
  • • Training Requirement: The 5-hour Job Readiness Training is by invitation only. Selected applicants will receive an email with a registration link. Completion of this training is required to be considered for program acceptance.
  • • Saving Application: The system will save your progress between steps. However, inactivity/being inactive will cause your session to expire in 00:10:00 minutes and you will need to start over. Be prepared to complete the application in one session.
  • • Shared/Public Computer: For security reasons, it is strongly recommended to not use a school/shared/public computer to fill out this application.
